Estonian Music Days & Tallinn University Institute of Fine Arts Department of Music:
MUSIC CRITICISM IN FOCUS
Under Estonian Music Days it will be explored why the social role of music criticism is fading. We live in a multicultural world full of sounds but the influence of music criticism is constantly retrograding. The metamorphosis games of media concern the whole cultural sphere.
Is the right place for music criticism really at the most distant edge of journalism or could it somehow be transferred in direction of the center of attention? What does the face or the faces of music criticism in Estonia look like? What could be the role of music criticism in ten years? Why is the music criticism distinguished in case of different music styles and what are the common universals of both pluralist music world and criticism?
There are plenty ways of looking at those things. These questions are discussed by people who are in a different way related to music and music criticism, who find music and its reflection important.
